Julie Strain

Six-foot-one of pure 90s action excess, and the face of Andy Sidaris's late empire. A collector's guide to the discs worth owning.

Why she matters

Julie Strain billed herself as 'six foot one and worth the climb' and built a career to match — B-movie royalty across action, horror and the gloriously unclassifiable. Her defining run came with Andy Sidaris, whose bullets-bombs-and-babes films gave her villainess and heroine roles she attacked with absolute relish. She remained a beloved figure of the convention circuit and cult fandom until her death in 2021, and the affection around her name is half the pleasure of collecting this shelf.

Where to start New to Strain? Start with Fit to Kill (1993) — her villainess Blu steals peak Sidaris.

Collector's notes

The whole restored Sidaris filmography is available on individual Blu-rays, but the famously cheap 12-film set is the best value-per-explosion purchase this site can point to — and the natural way to follow Strain through the back half of the catalogue. Animation fans should also know her as the voice and model of Julie in Heavy Metal 2000.
