The film
A direct sequel to the 1988 original, picking up the same night: university students attempt to separate a demon from the human soul it's bound to, with predictable success. What lifts it is craft — real locations, patient pacing, a memorable creature realised practically, and a cast working hard for a film of this size. Ford, in a largely wordless and very demanding role, is the heart of it.
Among 90s Lovecraft adaptations it sits comfortably in the upper tier, and it's aged better than most of its budget class. Horror collectors consistently underrate it, which keeps it interesting territory.
