Shannon Tweed
The most prolific leading woman of the entire direct-to-video boom. A collector's guide to the films and the discs worth owning.
Why she matters
No one made more of these films than Shannon Tweed — across the 90s she headlined dozens of thrillers, to the point where her name on a video box was effectively a genre label of its own. The films varied wildly; her professionalism never did. She played the avenger, the seductress and the imperilled wife with equal conviction, and the best of her run holds up as the definitive Tweed experience.
The essential discs
Scorned (1993)
The essential disc — patient, pitiless revenge done with total conviction. Seek the unrated cut. Read the full review →
Possessed by the Night (1994)
A cursed-object oddity wearing erotic-thriller clothes — off the main catalogue, but worth a hunt for the curious.
Collector's notes
Tweed's filmography is vast, and multi-packs collecting three or four titles are common and cheap — a reasonable way to sample before committing to standalone unrated discs. The Night Eyes sequels and the various 'Indecent' and 'Illicit' titles are deeper water for completists; Scorned remains the keeper.
